Rites of Spring

Posted on March 7, 2008 by Katherine Carr |

Spring BannerIt is that time of year Shakespeare called “our salad days” when life is refreshed and patterns nature in renewal and promise. Vivaldi represented spring with flighty cords and notes indicating the energy and optimism of youth. Emily Dickenson called it “a school yard” . It does not matter what represents the Vernal equinox, March 20th but that we all stop to “smell the roses” and recognize everything in nature and life starts over and we all have the chance to begin again or, at the very least, let change dictate the year ahead.

It is too bad that the exuberance and hopefulness cannot continue throughout the year but we all know that spring soon turns into the passion and spent energy of prime life. That, of course is followed by the decay, subdued colors, and lack of regeneration associated with Fall. Last, “sans….everything” issues in winter and the end. But….along comes spring again and the chance for rebirth of spirit and body and the need to look closely at whom we are, where we have been and where we are going.

It does not matter if we are a leaf, tiny creature, renewed older sprit, or simply a human looking for promise. Spring brings with it the beginnings we all know and love and the chance to start over again.

Spring is my second favorite season next to fall. The promise of warm weather in the near future is always a great comfort.
