in harms way…

Today I saw a really stupid movie about another liberal view to the war. I went because I like the actors, in general, and thought the title was rather interesting. I was, needless to say, extremely disappointed and think the actors should stick to acting and not politics. I wish I had not wasted the time or money on this attempt to trash the military and President Bush. It was actually a little sad to see the hidden message groping behind a too obvious propaganda movie against the war. I felt it was way beneath these otherwise fine thespians and I am not too sure I will look for their billboard entertainments in the future. It was too close to Michael Moore does Hollywood again…..and again.

What makes me most concerned is the offensive and non objective way some of Hollywood treats this serious threat to our nation. Do they really think if the war stops suddenly and our troops come home it will end there? Does 9/11 have no meaning anymore? Can Americans be attacked on their own soil and not have safely and security compromised for evermore? Do they realize some of the unhealthy and immoral dictates of the entertainment world would be the first attacked should this country be taken over? What about our word and honor to those who have fought with us in this battle for freedom? Do we not care what happens to them? Do we only fight wars when they are self-serving or short. Hollywood needs to study history! Do they forget the images of American planes being used to hit American buildings full of American civilian citizens, on American soil?

The message in the movie was that people should be doing something and war means death. Hello!!Grow up!!!How about doing something patriotic and worthwhile? The Hollywood of yesteryear would be ashamed in the negative manner we treat our troops in Harms Way. The patriotic actors of the 40’s were helping America support the war effort and making sacrifices at home to insure the freedom loving allies knew that the people of this nation do care for those who risk their lives to protect ours at home. World War II Hollywood did do its part to let everyone know we stand behind our military once they are fighting for us, freedom, and the world. It makes me sick and sad to think a military person somewhere has to see and know how fickle and cowardly this nation can get when hiding behind half truths.

It is easy to cut and run, trash and criticize, even fail to do our duty. Our military is all volunteer. They are courageous individuals who know their duty and do it for love of country, family, and God. They are out there doing it for everyone, Hollywood included. War is hell and pain and all the things that go with stopping dictators, evil, and aggression. It is sometimes long because war is unpredictable. War is predictable in that, if we do not stop this once and forever, it will linger on and become worse of a threat to this nation, our children, and grandchildren later. The ” whatever it takes ” in the movie is just simple reality.

I am all for freedom of speech but with that comes a responsibility and those in Harms Way deserve better. They have given their very lives to us….we need to give them more than empty rhetoric and stupid arguments. I feel neither being conservative nor liberal ensures we are patriotic. Individual choice does. Please let us all try to separate politics from democracy. Our Forefathers understood the blessings and woes of life and death, war and peace. They were willing to not compromise on the things sacred to our very existence.

Tonight I pray for those brave individuals who are willing to give the most precious thing they have so that we can enjoy ours. Tonight we should all ask that blessings and our support go to all Americans and especially those in Harms Way.

Tonight I pray that later this month legislation is passed so that there will once again be a Draft. When this happens finally everyone who supports the war but is afraid to go, or is afraid to let their own children go, will finally get the chance to experience the suffering of having themselves, or relative, die in Iraq to keep nonexistent nuclear-arms out of the hands of terrorists (Iraq).

Terrorism needs to be stopped, but we need to recognize that guerrilla fighting doesn’t get curbed by the use of an organized military force (think Vietnam). There has to be an alternate solution. My biggest fear is that we involved ourselves in an endless war just because it was the obvious reaction to getting bombed on the homeland - but what if there’s a more efficient way of dealing with this issue than endless war. What if the attitude “These colors don’t run” is actually counterproductive and will eventually stoke the terrorist fire so much that we get another 9/11 before 2011? What if diplomacy and international cooperation with other governments is the priority rather than a mechanical formality? The last thing I want to see is my beloved country fall because of pride and stubbornness.

Hubris is a characteristic that the Greeks have been so kind to caution us about for thousands of years.

Yes, the United States was attacked on 9/11. No, it was not Iraq that attacked the United States. Yes, there are ties between Iraq and terrorism - there are ties to EVERY Islamic country and terrorism.

We shouldn’t be in Iraq at all and I will fight anyone to the death who questions my patriotism because I have this opinion. It is for the love of my country that I feel this way. We should be fighting for the preservation of OUR freedom and the greatness of OUR country. This has nothing to do with toppling the government of a country long bereft of it’s greatness. That was a misdirective action meant to draw the attention of the public away from the fact that we are making no real progress in the war on terrorists, which is truely the fight in which we should be engaged.

There has not been a terrorist attack on US soil for over 6 years. When was the last time that happened? Sounds to me like progress is being made. People thought we would win this war without blood like we did in Gulf War I but air power isn’t enough to do the job this time.

Aparrently the colors do run because in a very short time we have litterally gone from a flag on every car to flag laying in a mud puddle on the side of every road.
